A native of San Augustine, TX, Mr. Holmes had lived in Tyler for seven years. He was a member of the Calvary Baptist Church in Tyler and had retired after 41 years of service as a dock supervisor and a pleasure boat captain.
Funeral services are set for 2 pm Saturday in the Lloyd James Funeral Home Chapel in Tyler with Dr. Johnny Beard and the Rev. E.R. Bass officiating.
Survivors include wife, Mrs. Mildred Holmes of Tyler; one son, Wilmer Holmes of Buna; one daughter Mrs. Margie Lena Martin of Alta Loma, TX; two step-daughters, Mrs. Carroll Bryant of Orange and Mrs. Jimmy Don Pickett of Tyler; four brothers, Jethro Holmes, Corbit Holmes, both of Woodville, Bill Holmes and A.D. Holmes of Port Arthur; two sisters, Mrs. John Falgout of Bridge City and Mrs. Mavie Blankenship of Spurger; eight grandchildren and 4 great grandchildren.
