Robert Burkes Bohannon was born August 15, 1916 to John Bohannon and Rebekah "Becky" Little Bohannon in Kemper County, MS.

During his youth, he joined Macedonia Baptist Church in DeKalb, MS.

He married Olivia Coleman, the daughter of Clyde Coleman and Nona Holmes Coleman, and they had nine children, six sons and three daughters.

He served in the United States Army and was a veteran of World War II.

He died March 19, 1972 at the age of 55.
