**John Bohannon is NOT buried in this cemetery. He is actually buried in the First Macedonia Cemetery which is located deep in the woods and the land where the cemetery is located is now owned by Weyerhaeuser Corporation.**

John Bohannon was born in Arkansas in 1860. His father was a full blood Cherokee Indian and his mother was White.

He came to Kemper County, MS, where he was instrumental in the establishing of the Bealman Community.

He was married to Easter Thompson Bohannon, Texana "Tex" Little Bohannon, Rebekah "Becky" Little Bohannon, Millie Bohannon, Mary Little Bohannon, and Vennie "Cissy" Little Reed.

His wives, Texana "Tex", Rebekah "Becky", Mary, and Vennie "Cissy" were all sisters. Their mother was Lettie Little. Over half of his children were brothers and sisters and first cousins as well.

According to John Bohannon, he stated that he was the father between 50 - 100 children. However only twenty-nine of his children could be accounted for which consisted of seventeen sons and twelve daughters.

John was a hard working farmer who had big crops. He also had his own little school for his children in the Bealman Community. He was also instrumental in finding the Macedonia Baptist Church in DeKalb, MS which is still operational today (2009) whereby his grandson, Rev. Randall "Randy" Bohannon is the proud pastor. Randall is the son of John's son, Burkes Bohannon.

He died January 15, 1944, at his home in the Bealman/Macedonia Community in DeKalb, MS, at the age of 84.
