OBITUARY OF GEORGE V. (BUD) SALANKY

George V. Salanky, 93, St. Joseph, passed away Saturday, May 31, 2008, at a local health care center.
Mr. Salanky was born April 8, 1915, in St. Joseph.
He married Kathryn Eileen Coy on April 12, 1946. She preceded him in death.
Later he married Myrlene Vernelle Casaday March 25, 1972. She survives of the home.
He served in the US Army and was a veteran of World War II. He retired from Beatrice Foods after 20 years service.
He was a member of St. James Catholic Church, South Side Lions Club, Fraternal Order of the Moose and Pony Express American Legion Post #359.
Mr. Salanky was also preceded in death by his parents, John and Margaret (Lutz) Salanky; four brothers, John,Nicholas, Adam & Felix Salanky; five sisters, Anna Walsh, Caroline Gartland,Magdalena Salanky, Catherine Rehm,and Marion Hummer, and stepson, Garry Cooper.
Additional survivors, two stepdaughters, Carol Mae Metz, Cleveland, GA, and Rebecca (Harry) Foster, St. Joseph; two stepsons, Richard (Barb) Kirschner, Agency, MO and Kevin (Julie) Kirschner, St. Joseph; step daughter-in-law, Cathy Cooper, St. Joseph; 9 grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren.
Services: 9 a.m. Wednesday, Meierhoffer Family Funeral Home & Crematory, St. Joseph. Interment: Memorial Park Cemetery, St. Joseph.
Friends may call after 3 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home, where family will receive friends from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. Tuesday.
The family suggests memorial gifts to Hands of Hope Hospice or a charity of the donor's choice.
