Lester Cleland, Air Force Sgt., Is Heart Victim
Master Sergeant Lester Owen Cleland, 42, formerly of Decatur County and who was related in Rush County, died at 8 pm Wednesday in the hospital at Sheppard Air Force Base in Texas. Death was attributed to a heart ailment which he had suffered for some time.
The brother of Arthur Cleland, R.R.1, Milroy, he was born in Dupont (Jefferson County), the son of Mort and Amelia Cleland. His mother survives and now lives in Greensburg.
M/Sgt. Cleland was reared in the Greensburg community and was graduated from Sandcreek High School in 1942. After employment in Greensburg for a year, he enlisted in the Air Force in 1943 and remained in service after the close of World War II.
His assignments included duty in Germany, England and North Africa and he was approaching retirement after 22 years of service.
In addition to his mother in Greensburg and brother near Milroy, he is survived by the widow, Mrs. Anna Faye Cleland and two daughters, Linda, 15, and Mary Ann, 4, all of Altus, Okla.; two other brothers, Merrill and Walter Cleland of Greensburg, and two sisters, Mrs, John (Marilee) Blackledge of Greensburg and Mrs. William (Imogene) Davis, R.R.2, Greensburg.
Several distant relatives also reside in Rush and Decatur counties.
