Walter L. Cleland, 69, of Greensburg, died Sunday, July 28, 2002, at Methodist Hospital in Indianapolis.

Born Feb. 26, 1933, in Decatur County, he was the son of Morton and Amelia (Lauer) Cleland, both deceased. On Dec. 12, 1969, he married Madge J. Karmire of Adams, Ind.; she preceded him in death on Dec. 18, 1997.

Mr. Cleland graduated from Sandusky High School in 1951. He served with the U.S. Army during the Korean War. He later was a machinist at American Manufacturing Company in Greensburg. He was a member of the Mount Moriah Baptist Church in Adams, Ind.

Survivors include one son, Bill Cleland of Greensburg; three daughters, Christie Sue Cleland of Indianapolis and Janie Anderson and Susanne McKee, both of Greensburg; one brother, Arthur Cleland of Milroy; one sister, Marilee Blackledge of Greensburg; and six grandchildren.

Besides his wife and parents, he was preceded in death by two brothers and one sister.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday at Gilliland-Howe Funeral Home in Greensburg, with the Rev. Keith Dover officiating.

Burial will follow in Hebron Cemetery in Adams.

Friends may call from 4 to 7 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.
