HEART ATTACK FATAL TO MAN

Rites Saturday For Merrill Cleland, 46
Merrill M Cleland, 46, widely known in Greensburg and community, died at 7:10 a.m. Wednesday at Decatur County Memorial Hospital.
His death was attributed to a heart attack. He had been admitted to the hospital over a week ago for treatment of a heart condition. His passing in the prime of life came as a shock to relatives and friends.
The son of Mort and Amelia Lauer Cleland, he was born in Jennings County on Dec 24, 1920. Reared in the Letts community, he was graduated from Letts High School in 1938.
For the past 24 years Mr Cleland had been employed by Johnston's Sons Co Wholesale House in Greensburg, being one of the faithful employes of that business institution.
Mr Cleland was a member of the Greensburg Methodist Church.
His marriage to Leora E Craven took place at Moores Hill on May 21, 1950.
His survivors include: the widow, Mrs Leora Cleland of R.R.1, Greensburg in Greenview Addition; two small children at home, a daughter, April Leora Cleland, about two and a son, Matthew M Cleland, about three; and his mother, Mrs Amelia Lauer Cleland of Greensburg.
Two sisters and two brothers also survive. They are: Mrs William A (Imogene) Davis and Mrs John (Marilee) Blackledge, both of Greensburg; and two brothers, Arthur Cleland of R.R.1, Milroy and Walter L Cleland of Greensburg. He also leaves several aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and cousins.
His father, Mort Cleland, passed away on Jan 23, 1955. A daughter, Laura Elizabeth Cleland, died on Sept 23, 1961. A brother, M-Sgt Lester Owen Cleland, preceded him in death on June 26, 1965.
Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday in J H Porter & Sons Funeral Home. The Rev Alda I Carter, pastor of the Greensburg Methodist Church, and the Rev E Edwin Danielsen, pastor of Grace Lutheran Church, will officiate. Burial will be in South Park Cemetery.
