Harold was born Apr. 21, 1911 in Naper, Nebraska to Joe and Maria (Zeitner) Stahlecker. He enlisted in the military, and served with the Marines in B Company 1st. Battalion. He served in the Southwest Pacific Theatre, Philippine Islands. He was captured by the Japanese, and held at Camp 591. While being transported on the POW ship, Arisan Maru, it was hit by a torpedo from the US war ship, USS Snook, on Oct. 24, 1944. The ship sank four hours later. Harold was shot while trying to escape. Of the 1,790 POW's on board, only nine survived.
Harold is survived by his mother, Maria; 4 brothers, Albert, Herman, Walter and Henry; and 3 sisters, Alvina, Anna and Clara.
Harold was preceded in death by his father, Joe; and one brother, Richard.
