Sheriff Melvin Hayzlett noticed the blaze about five minutes after midnight while on routine patrol. Substantial progress had been made when the fire was discovered, according to the Sheriff.
The Southern Fire Protection District firemen were summoned immediately, but it was impossible to rescue Mrs. Munyon or to save her home. Two trucks were kept at the scene throughout the rest of the night, as a precautionary measure.
Mrs. Munyon's body was not recovered until about mid morning Wednesday because of the intense heat caused by the flames which completely destroyed the residence. The origin of the fire has not been determined.
