The son of Paul H. Friedel and Eileen M. Arnold, John served in the United States Army during the Korean War.

He married Helen Brangenberg on 25 Aug 1956 in Kampsville, Calhoun County, Illinois.

John was a construction superintendent and a member of Carpenters' Union Local 73 in St. Louis, Missouri.

While living in St. Louis, John was a member of Sacred Heart Church in Florissant. He was a former president of the Sacred Heart Parish Council and past president of the Holy Name Society. He was also honored as the Sacred Heart Man of the Year.

John served as president of the Florissant Athletic Association in St. Louis County, Missouri. He was instrumental in getting lighted softball diamonds in Florissant.

John served on the senior citizens board in Hardin, Calhoun County, Illinois. At the time of his death, he was a member of St. Anselm's Catholic Church in Kampsville.

John was survived by his wife, 2 sons, 1 daughter-in-law, 1 sister and 4 brothers. He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother, Wayne Friedel.

John was 69 years and 6 days old when he passed away. He was buried on 12 Jul 2002 following services at St. Anselm's.
