The community was shocked Sunday morning when the news spread of the death of Mrs Mae Kiehl at her home north of Burr Oak. For many years she had been a sufferer from heart-trouble which was the cause of her death. Nearly two years ago she had a paralytic stroke from which she never fully recovered. She had been gradually failing the last three months buy appeared better of late and was able to go to Burr Oak, Saturday, which after her return home sat up later then her usual bed-time talking.
About 3:30 in the morning she awakened her husband by trying to say something, but seemed powerless and passed away in a few minutes, before anyone reached the home.
Funeral services were held at the Nazarene Church in Burr Oak, Tuesday at 2 p.m. and burial was made in Burr Oak cemetery. Mrs Stansbury conducted the services being, as were the pall-bearers and all but one of the choir an old schoolmate of the deceased.
Leora Mae Roberson was born near Burlington, Coffey County, Kansas, February 4, 1879; died near Burr Oak, Kansas, December 17, 1916 being at the time of her death aged 37 years. 10 month and 11 days. She was the daughter of Benjamin and Emergene Roberson.
When she was three months of age her parents moved near Guide Rock, Neb., where they resided four years, afterward, returning to Coffey County and again moved back to the vicinity of Burr Oak.
She was married to Ernest Kiehl, August 24, 1898 at Mankato, Kansas and to this union two sons were born - Glenn and Clair. In 1902 they moved to the southern park of the state and later lived a few years at VanBuren, Ark., before returning to the vicinity of Burr Oak where she lived the remainder of her life.
She leaves to mourn her departure, the husband, two sons, age 16 and 13, mother and step-father, two brothers and one sister, Fred E Roberson of Covelo, Calif. and John W Roberson and Mrs Ethel Heglin both of Burr Oak, Kansas, also numerous other relatives and friends.
She was a good wife, a loving mother and daughter, an affection-friends who will sadly miss her.
