Mary Emergene, daughter of William and Matilda Strickland, was born near Woodstock, Ill., Oct. 28, 1847 and died at the home of her daughter, Ethel Renschler, Dec. 3, 1928, ages 81 years, 1 month and 5 days.
She spent her early life in Illinois and Michigan where she was married to Benjamin Roberson, Jan. 1, 1868.
To this union were born four children, two of whom preceded her in death--John W. Roberson, Aug. 30, 1922 and Mae Kiehl, Dec. 17, 1916.
A few years after marriage they moved to Coffey County, Kansas, and later to Jewell County, where Mr. Roberson passed away Nov. 22, 1895/
On Aug 6, 1902, she was united in marriage to Gordon D. Collins. They continued to live on the old home place until August, 1905, when they moved to Burr Oak, Kansas, where Mr. Collins passed away Nov. 13, 1917.
After Mr. Collins' death Mother Collins made her home with her daughter Ethel part of the time, and since her health failed nearly three years ago has made her home there continuously.
After her marriage with Mr. Collins she was converted and led a quiet Christian life. She was a staunch believer in all things that were right, teaching her children to live the way they should. She was a loving wife and mother, a true friend and neighbor, a woman with many friends, one who will be missed by all.
She leaves to mourn her loss two children, Fred E. Roberson of Portland, Oregon and Ethel Renschler, Burr Oak; five grandchildren, Freeds Allington, Loren Roberson and Ruth Davis of Burr Oak, Glen and Clair Kiehl of Wyandotte, Mich.; three brothers, Frank and Fred Strickland of Gridley, Kansas, and C. W. Strickland of Burlington, Kansas; and seven step-children.
Funeral services were held at Northbranch, Thursday afternoon at two o'clock, conducted by Rev. Perry Hadley. Interment was made in the Northbranch cemetery.
