Mildred Heights ‘‘Millie" Wilkerson, 84, of Brandywine died May 11, 2006, at her home.

She was a homemaker and farmer, and she worked 26 years as a waitress and with cafeteria food services for the Charles County Board of Education. She loved working in her vegetable and flower gardens, working, expressing her opinion and helping and caring for her family and friends.

Born Sept. 5, 1921, she was the daughter of the late Norman Henry and the late Ida Mae Thompson DeMarr.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, James R. Wilkerson Sr.; brothers, John Henry DeMarr, Benson DeMarr, Bernard DeMarr, Frederick DeMarr and Sylvester DeMarr; and sisters, Florence Sobolewski, Margaret Moreland, Elsie Wilkinson and Hilda Blainey.

She is survived by her children, Elizabeth and her husband, James Coulby, Clara Mae Harper, James R. Wilkerson Jr. and Robert Scott Shannon; nine grandchildren; numerous great-grandchildren; and sisters, Bernice Richards and Ella Mae DeMarr.

A service was held May 16 at St. Mary's Episcopal Church, Aquasco. The Rev. Harry Harper officiated. Burial took place at the church cemetery.

Pallbearers were Kenny Blainey, R.J. Shannon, Steve Coulby, James R. Wilkerson III, Faron Harper and Anthony Olsen.

Memorial contributions may be made to the St. Mary's Cemetery or Hospice of Charles County P.O. Box 1703, La Plata, MD 20646.

Arrangements were handled by Huntt Funeral Home, Waldorf.
