AN OLD SOLDIER GONE TO REST
Monday, June 3, 1895, Matsfield B. Herrell died at his home near Bull Run, Knox county. The interment took place at Zion church on Wednesday by Sam Tillery Post, G.A.R., of which the deceased veteran honored member.

Comrade Herrell enlisted in Co. H., 1st Tenn. vol. Inf. and served three years, receiving an honorable discharge at the close of the war. He was a consistent member of the Baptist church at the (?) of his death.

The deceased had only been sick about three weeks, the immediate cause of death being paralysis. He was 58 years old, having been born in 1837.

He leaves a wife and several children, beside a host of relatives and friends to mourn his death. They weep not as those who have no hope, but look forward to the resurrection born with the assurance of again meeting their loved one.

He has answered his last roll call and now awaits the reveille on the eternal shore. Peace to his ashes.
