Douglas Hemenway Bertoch, born July 20, 1910, died peacefully May 14, 2001 at the American Fork Hospital. He was the fourth of seven children born to William and Ethel H. Bertoch and grew up in Granger, Utah. On March 25, 1931 he married Lillian Ord in the Manti Temple. She preceded him in death on July 9, 1998. He was also preceded in death by his parents, four brothers and one sister.

He is survived by one brother, James Bertoch, Salt Lake City; one son, Merrill (Carol) Bertoch, Roosevelt; three daughters, Liane (Ferd) Alder, Kaysville, LaRae (Don) Funcannon, St George, Jeannette (Michael J.) King, American Fork; 18 grandchildren, 43 great-grandchildren and seven great great-grandchildren.

Douglas retired from the Department of Agriculture and was presented the distinguished "Award for Superior Service" May 17, 1960 at the White House in Washington, D.C. He was a loving and compassionate care giver to his wife during the 16 years she endured cancer and for several friends who also experienced poor health. He will be remembered by all who knew him for his integrity, hard work ethic, and compassionate service.

An active member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, he served in numerous callings. At 89 years of age he was still serving in a capacity that he loved, driving missionaries to their proselytizing appointments.

Funeral services will be held at the Larkin Sunset Gardens Mortuary/ Chapel, 10600 S. 1700 E. Sandy, Utah, Wed., May 16, 2001 at 11 a.m. with a viewing at 10 a.m. Interment Larkin Sunset Gardens.
