Armaretta was born at the Brooks homeplace west of Graham, Texas. She was the daughter of Lewis Pinkney Brooks and Mary Lucinda Moore. She met Robert Lee Puckett while he was working as an engineer helping to build a bridge across the Brazos River about half a mile from the Brooks place. They were married December 12, 1906 in Graham. They had one child; a daughter named Ruth.
