Alverse was the daughter of Lewis Pinkney Brooks and Mary Lucinda Moore, early settlers of Young County, Texas. They came to Texas from Cherokee County, Georgia.
Alverse married Samuel Floyd (Bud) Farmer December 22, 1914. They lived in Goree, Texas most of their lives before moving to California. She was Postmistress in Goree for many years. They had four children; Mary Elizabeth, Floyd Brooks (Died in infancy), Frances John and Frieda Lee.
