James was the son of Floyd Crawford and Rosie Jego. He served in the U. S. Army during World War II. He was survived by his wife, Ethel Jewel Davis Crawford; one daughter, Lynna Gail Crawford Hunter; one son, James Matthew Crawford Jr.; five grandchildren; ten great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; and one sister, Evelyn Martin. His obituary was published in the Palestine Herald-Press, Wednesday, 10 May 2006.
