Esther Elizabeth Huntley was the beautiful daughter and second child born to Horatio Milo Ray Huntley and Ellen Leora McDonald Huntley at their farm home in northern Grant County, Oklahoma.

Esther Elizabeth was the granddaughter of Horace Milo Huntely and Mary Elizabeth McBride Huntley and John McDonald and Anna Eliza Henry McDonald.

Esther had one sister and two brothers ~ Dessie Nadine Huntley (Farnam), John Milo and Nolan Leroy Huntley.

Esther attended grade school 1 and 1/8 miles north in Kansas graduated from Caldwell, Kansas High School in 1942. After high school she worked at the Wichita, Kansas Airport where they trained British Air Cadets for combat in World War II. After completing training she was transferred to Kansas City, Missouri with the Civil Aeronautics Administration.

Always wanting to attend college she resigned her CAA position and began her college years at then Oklahoma Agricultural and Mechanical college in Stillwater, Oklahoma midsemester 1947 and graduated with a Bachelor of Arts Degree in 1950.

While at Stillwater, Esther met her future husband Arnold William Knox WWII veteran. They were married May 21, 1950 at the First Christian Church in Ponca City, Oklahoma. Esther wore a pink linen suit. Sister Nadine and her husband Max Farnam had a reception for the immediate family. They had no car, went to Oklahoma City by train for their honeymoon.

One week after Arnold and Esther were married they both graduated from OSU in Stillwater, Oklahoma.

Since Arnold was in the reserves he was assigned to Ft. Leonard Wood, Missouri. They lived in Lebanon, Missouri, 40 miles away from the base. He hitch hiked back and forth for one year before getting into a car pool. After 2 years in the reserves, he hitch hiked to Okmulgee, Oklahoma, for his first job, as an engineer, with an electric company. Having lived in Okmulgee for three years they moved to Indianapolis, Indiana, then to Wichita, Kansas, for five years, then to Tulsa, Oklahoma, in 1963.

Esther recieved her Bachelor's of Science degree in education from Tulsa Universary in 1965. She taught 26 years as a kindergarten teacher and enjoyed everyday working with five year olds. While teaching, two nights a week and summers she attended Northeastern State Universary and received her Master's degree.

Esther and Arnold joined Yale Avenue Christian Church in Tulsa, Oklahoma in 1963. While at Yale Avenue she was a deaconess and greeter.

Esther loved to travel both in the United States and overseas. In 2000 she spent a month in Kuwait with her daughter Patricia and husband William who lived in a villa by the Persian Gulf.

Esther was a dedicated mother, grandmother, worshiper, teacher, very special aunt, friend, gardener and world traveler.

Arnold and Esther were blessed with three daughters ~ Joan (Brownlee) and husband Robert of Denver, Colorado, Janet Ellen Knox of Tulsa, Oklahoma and Patricia A. (Smith) and husband William of Sugarland, Texas.
Four grandchildren ~ Ryan and Dallas Smith and Priscilla and William Brownlee.
