The 1st wife of Benjamin Slane Sr (1773-1842) was an American Indian maiden, thought to be of the Cherokee tribe. Benjamin likely met her while patrolling with the militia against hostile Indians in the area of Winchester, Frederick County, Virginia. She is thought to have died during or as a result of childbirth in 1798 and their only child was Benjamin Slane Jr (1798-1875).
