She was born March 25, 1922, in Bugnara, Italy, to Berardino and Elena Nolfi Marchione; they preceded her in death as did her brother, Benjamin; and sister, Elsie Beck.
As a young woman, Della lived in Coraopolis, Pa., and was a design artist with Consolidated Glass Company. Some of her glass work was seen on film in "Gone with the Wind." She met her husband, Joseph Edward Ori, during WWII and they married May 30, 1942, in St. Charles, Mo.; he preceded her in death on August 28, 1994.
Della and her family have been residents of Chatham since 1947. She worked in Springfield as a retail clerk at Sears in the shoe department before retiring in 1985 with over 30 years of service. Her memberships included St. Joseph the Worker Catholic Community in Chatham and the Sears Retirees Club.
Della is survived by her sons, Joseph (wife, Paula) Ori of Springfield and Gary (wife, Joan) Ori of Chatham; grandchildren, Joseph M. (wife, Laura) of New York City, Timothy C. (wife, Kerry) of Marlton, N.J., Matthew L. (wife, Amy) of O'Fallon, Chris A. (wife, Addie) of Springfield, and Lyndsay R. (husband, Rob) Sarra of Chicago; great-grandchildren, Joey Ori, Nicholas Ori, Jordan Ori, Olivia Ori, Ansley Ori, Brynn Ori, Aidyn Ori; a sister, Genevieve Goss; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.
The family will greet friends following a 4 p.m. prayer service until 7 p.m. on Monday, October 5, at Staab Polk Memorial Home, 8855 State Route 4, Chatham. Mass of the Resurrection will be at 10 a.m. on Tuesday, October 6, at St. Joseph's the Worker Catholic Community, 700 East Spruce, in Chatham with Rev. John Nolan officiating. Burial will follow at noon at Camp Butler National Cemetery.
