Carper Killed In Accident

A woods accident early Friday afternoon claimed the life of Ted Carper of John Day, woods foreman for the Central Oregon Lumber company. The mishap occurred on Pine creek, 15 miles southeast of John Day.

Carper was struck in the back when the end of a short log fell from a truck. Dr. Gerold van der Vlugt of John Day was summoned and the injured man was rushed to the John Day General hospital. He died as a result of the injuries before the surgeon could operate.

Carper, his wife, Virginia, and son, Ted, Jr. had made their home in John day for more than 14 years. He operated a bowling alley in John Day prior to accepting employment with the Central Oregon firm 10 years ago. He had served as woods foreman for the past seven years. The couple's son, who is serving with the armed forces, was home on leave at the time of the accident.

Final rites were held Monday from the Driskill mortuary chapel with burial in the Canyon City cemetery.
