Funeral services were held Thursday, October 19, 1978 at 2 p.m. in the Church of Christ in Hayti for Mr. Neely H. Whitfield, Bro. Landon Hatley of Hayti officiated.
Mr. Whitfield was born November 3, 1902 near Camden, Tenn., and died October 18, 1978 in Memphis, Tenn. He was a member of the Church of Christ in Hayti, and had been an Elder for several years. He was a retired farmer and the son of Lafayette and Loula Whitfield.
He leaves his wife, Mrs. Lerlene Whitfield of Caruthersville; four sons: Austin of Kansas City; Ronnie of Jacksonville, Ark.; Jerry of Hayti, and Larry of Duck Hill, Miss.; five daughters: Mrs.. Ida Mae Tschannen of Minneapolis, Minn.; Mrs. Virginia Quinn of Caruthersville; Mrs. Beatrice Vickers of Jonesboro; Mrs. Patricia Ann Pirtle, Spring City, Tenn.; and Mrs. Barbara Lou Floyd of Virginia Beach, Va.; one brother, Ollie Whitfield of Hayti; three sisters: Mrs. Beatrice Thornton of Memphis, Tenn.; Mrs. Ollie Dye of Michigan; and Mrs. Jennie Ward of Steele; a step-son, Frank Bostic of Long Beach, Calif.; and a step-daughter, Opal Bourbon of St. Louis; 23 grandchildren, 11 great-grandchildren, and many other relatives and friends.
Burial was in the Little Prairie Cemetery at Caruthersville with the John W. German Funeral Home of Hayti in charge of arrangements. Pallbearers were Bernard Brockett, Woodrow Dodson, Raymond Dawson, Ivoe McTernan, Ralph Hall and Stoney Taylor.
