Art was born to Al and Thea Riste on 17 August, 1910 at Chopaka, Wa. He was raised on the Similkameen ranch at
the base little Chopaka. He spent his life as a rancher.. worked with the Forest Service breaking trails and packing tourists into the Mt Rainer area. He also leased his horses to movie productions namely the "The Track of the Cat", and "The Hanging Tree". In 1951, they left Oroville
and moved to White Pass,Wa. There they owned an outfitter
business called Indian Creek Corrals. In 1960, Art bought
a ranch in Naches, which they operated for a number of
years. Art and Allie had two children, Tommy Lee Riste
and their daughter Geraldine Riste Treise of Winthrop.
