Elta Naomi Wommack
Elta Naomi Wommack, 95, Springfield, passed away Jan. 8, 1993, in her home.
Affectionately known as "Mom" Wommack, she was born Nov. 17, 1897, to John Dee and Lily Burke in Douglas County.
She was reared in Greene County in the Springfield-Fair Grove area. She was married to Otis N. Wommack, April of 1919.
They made their home in the Fair Grove, Brighton and Pleasant Hope communities until Otis passed away in 1969.
At that time she moved into Springfield. "Mom" worked for the Fair Grove School while living in Fair Grove, after making her home in Springfield, she worked as a companion for elderly people until she retired at age 85.
She was past president of W.P.F.A., the Fair Grove Sunshine Girls, 100 percent Grandmothers Club, and the Pleasant Hope Chapter #467 O.E.S.
She enjoyed crocheting afghans and hand embroidery, sharing her handcrafted items with family and friends. She was an active member of Boulevard Baptist Church, always caring about other people.
She was a grand lady and will be sorely missed by her many friends and relatives.
She is survived by daughters, Gladys and her husband, Junior Conley, Martha Tummons, both of Springfield, and Lillian Hein and her husband, Ralph, Houston, Texas; a son, Tom Wommack and his wife, Wanda, Springfield; and a daughter-in-law, Margaret Wommack; 10 grandchildren 22 great-grandchildren; and six great-great grandchildren.
She is also survived by three half-sisters, Ruth Halderman, Springfield, Ruth Merideth, Bakersfield, Calif., and Verda Nederman, Mountain Grove, Mo.
She was preceded in death by three sons, Raymond, Bill and Jummy Joe; two sisters, Elva Greathouse, and Iva Goodwin; and a brother, Floyd Burke.
