Charles W. Elyea
Charles William Elyea was born in Osceola, Missouri, September 10, 1870 to Samuel and Jennette Elyea. He passed away March 24, 1953.
His parents moved to Jewell County, Kansas, when he was 12 years old. He was married to Pearl Dawdy October 14, 1891. They lived in Jewell county until March, 1915, when they moved to Backus, Minn., where he has resided until the time of his death.
His wife, three sons and one daughter preceded him in death. He leaves behind him one brother, Downey Elyea of Jewell, Kansas and four sons, Edwin of Belleville, Kansas, Ira of Chicago, Ill., Cecil of Salem, Wisconsin and Dale of Woodstock, Ill. Three daughters, Helen Palmer of Backus, Stella Skeesuck of Cobasset, and Bula Coonts of Snohomish, Wash, 43 grand children and 37 great-grandchildren. The pallbearers were Ira, Edwin, Cecil and Dale Elyea (4 sons), Floyd Skeesucks (son-in-law), and Sydney Palmer (grandson). Rev. Harold Palmer of the Congregational church, son-in-law, officiated and burial was at the Backus Evergreen Cemetery on Friday, March 27.

Charles Elyea Rites To Be Held at Backus
PINE RIVER -- Funeral services for Charles Elyea, 82, of Backus will be held Saturday at 2 p.m. in the Congregational Church in Backus.
Mr. Elyea died Tuesday at his home in Backus.
The Rev. Harold Palmer will officiate at the rites. Burial will be at the Backus Cemetery.
