Frederick was born in Aachen, Germany to Friedrich and Dorothy (Birkner) Krakofsky, in 1836.

When Frederick was 11 years old, the family arrived in the United States, in 1847, and found their way to Racine County, Wisconsin by 1850.

In 1856, at the age of 20, he married Louisa Eliza Boss, daughter of James and Dolly (Quackenbush) Boss of Burlington, Wisconsin. His brother, Charles Krakofsky (1838-1905), married Louisa's sister, Almira, five years later.

During the Civil War, Frederick served in Company L, 1st Regiment Wisconsin, Heavy Artillery, with a rank of Private. (His brother Charles also enlisted and served during the Civil War).

There are many Civil War artifacts from the Krakofsky brothers in the Burlington Historical Society Museum including a display of Frederick Krakofsky's sword and a framed photo of Frederick in his uniform.

Frederick and Louisa had four children:

1) Frederick George Krakofsky (1855–1880), no known marriage.

3) Henry Janus Krakofsky (1867–1906), m. Josephine Eisenbart; They had two children.

4) Edgar James Krakofsky (1872–1941), m. Anna Meyer; They had ten children.

As many people of this time and place in the county, Frederick was a farmer and and continued to work his farm until his death at age 72, in the year 1908.

Old soldiers of Racine will be sorry to learn of the death of Fred W. Krakofsky, at his home in the city of Burlington.
