GALENA, Ill. -- Anna Loretta (Swift) Cox, 83, of Galena, went to rest Monday, Aug. 31, 2009.

Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Friday, Sept. 4, at St. Michael's Church, Galena. Burial will be in the church cemetery immediately following. Friends may call from 4 to 7 p.m. Thursday Sept. 3, at Furlong Funeral Chapel, Galena, where the parish rosary will be recited at 4 p.m.

She was born on Nov. 30, 1925, in Benton, Wis., the fifth daughter and ninth child of James and Margaret (McCarthy) Swift, all of whom preceded her in death.

Anna will be dearly missed by all of her family and the many friendships she developed throughout her lifetime; a lifetime in which her family was her priority. She developed a special Christmas celebration when her children were small, a celebration that is now a cherished family tradition.

Over many years, Anna crocheted an afghan for each one of her children, grandchildren and most of her great-grandchildren. She loved to dance, and she and her husband, John, were often the envy of others on the dance floor. Anna was a great storyteller who loved to sit and talk about stories of family and days gone by. Her great wit, sense of humor and twinkling Irish smile made these the best of times. We treasure the lessons she taught us and the gifts she gave us.

She will be greatly missed by her loving husband of 63 years, John Cox Sr., whom she married on Sept. 10, 1946. She was the proud and loving mother of eight children, John Jr. (Bonnie), Jim (Pauline), Pat, Paula, (Jordan), Doris, David (Sherri), Lori (John) and Lynda (Brian); loving grandmother of Jennifer, Emily (John), Michael (Ana), Jessica, Jennison, Todd (Erika), Corey, Carissa, Matthew, Justin, Jared, Jennifer (Mark), Jessica, Eric (Becky), Adam, Katie (Nate), Kelsey, Kendall, Joshua, Rachel, Megan and Jake; and great-grandmother of Julia, Daniel, Kaleb, Johno and Jordyn.
