Robert Chester Tillman, 61, of Caruthersville, died Sept. 21 at Veterans Administration Medical Center in Memphis. Born July 31, 1925 in Tomato, Ark., he was the son of Edgar L. and Leather Lee Sutton Tillman. He attended local schools and was formerly a butcher and grocer. He was a Navy veteran of World War II and was a member of Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 4680.
He is survived by his wife, Mrs. Elaine Hayden Tillman of Caruthersville; His mother, Mrs. Ed Tillman of Caruthersville; Two sons, Mark Tillman of St. Louis and Tommy Tillman of Caruthersville; Six daughters, Mrs. Cathy Dickherber of Springfield, Ill., Mrs. Vicki Gale of Concord and Mrs. Christi Watkins, Mrs. Beth Wright, Mrs. Susan Faulkner and Laurie Tillman, all of Caruthersville; Two brothers, Ed Tillman of Hayti and Jimmy Tillman of Deering; One sister, Mrs. Bill Rhodes of Hayti, and two half-sisters, Mattie and Mildred Grey of Mesa, Ariz.
And nine grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by two sons, Mike and Joe Tillman.
Funeral mass was Wednesday at 10:30 a.m. at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, the Rev. Ernie Marquart officiating, with burial in Little Prairie Cemetery, Dean Funeral Home of Caruthersville in charge.
Pallbearers were Tommy Clayton Mike Cole, John Lynn, Jerry Maclin, Billy Hayden and Chester Burnett.
Honorary pallbearers were Red Adams, Charles Stewart, the Rev. Frank Payne, Noel Quinn, Emerson Smith, Charles Lux, Harold Hinchey, A.B. Alexander, Maurice Malin, Pete Robertson, Ed Adams and Verland Stubbs.
