Harvey Floyd Tillman, son of Mr. and Mrs. Edgar L. Tillman, who reside on East Seventh street, was born at Tomato, Ark., February 23, 1920, and passed away at the Baptist hospital in Memphis, where he had been a patient the past two weeks, on Saturday morning, February 23, his birthday, at 7:30 a.m. at the exact age of 15 years.
Floyd, as he was known by his many friends, moved to this city with his parents from Osceola, June 1, 1933, his father being an overseer in the timber department of the Luxora Land and Cooperage Company.
Until his health failed, about a year ago, Floyd attended the local school, graduating from the eighth grade last year. He became ill of Hodgekin's disease, which seems to develop rather rapidly or make its appearance noticeably after a tonsil operation, about a year ago and he gradually declined in health from that time. He was taken to Memphis a number of times for treatment and everything possible was done to restore his vitality.
Floyd was a bright student, an ambitious boy and a young Christian. He joined the Methodist Church when only a child and after removing to this city, when in good health, regularly attended services at the local church. Although he had lived here a little more than a year he made many friends in the church, community and school, as was attested by the large delegation that drove to Blytheville to attend the last rites.
He is survived by his parents and brothers and sisters as follows: Misses Mattie and Mildred Tillman, Louis Tillman of the elder children and Edward, John, Robert, Mary Elizabeth and James Thomas.
His body was brought to Blytheville from Memphis and funeral services were held Sunday at Maple Grove cemetery at Blytheville.
Rev. C.C. Barnhardt, pastor of the local church conducted the service and four members of the local church choir, Mdmes. R.A. Berryman and R.L. Tinsley and Messrs. J.W. Davis and Floyd Barnhardt, rendered special music. A large number of Floral offerings bespoke the esteem in which the youth was held, his classmates sending one of the more elaborate ones.
