Mary Coates was born in Rhinelander, Wisconsin where she worked at Browns Lumber Co. and Montgomery Ward Store. She met and married Elmer Coates of Cassian, Wisconsin Her and her husband Elmer enjoyed belonging to Shorty's motorcycle club. Later they had three children. Moving to Longview, Washington where they belonged to a local jeep club that traveled all over the Northwest. She was a very friendly person and loved her family and neighbors. She loved to travel and visit many friends from around the country. She was also very much into making crafts and loved to cook.
