David Barden was born Feb 4, 1844 in Leeds, Megantic, Quebec, Canada, and baptized in St. Sylvestre Catholic Church, as one of 13 children of Patrick Barden and Catherine Brown. He arrived in the United States in 1867 and in Wausau in 1870 where he began farming in Pine River. He returned to Canada to marry Catherine Hopkins and they returned to Wisconsin. They remained in Pine River until his death.

On the 27th of September 1881 after publication of three banns of marriage, David Barden from the state of Wisconsin, USA, son of age of Patrick Barden and Catherine Brown of Ste. Agathe, and Catherine Hopkins, minor daughter of Charles Hopkins and Alice Kelly were married.

Five children were born of this marriage: Mary Barden Sullivan; Kate Barden Gregory Lambrecht; Margaret Barden Van Slate; Nellie Barden Bernier; David Francis Barden (Hulda).

Died of arteriosclerosis.

David Barden, Sr. a resident of the town of Pine River for many years, died Friday of a complication of diseases, at the age of 75 years. Mr. Barden was a native of Canada where he was married to Kate Hopkins in 1881. He had already prepared the farm home in Pine River for his bride, and returned to Canada to claim her, and they had been inseparable companions up to 1903 when Mrs. Barden passed away. He is survived by four daughters, Mrs. Thos. Sullivan, Mrs. Frank Lambrecht, Mrs. Van Slate, and Mrs. Joseph Bernier, and one son David who is in France.
