Alton Workman

Alton Workman, 99, of Cowen, entered into rest Friday, October 31, 2008 in Webster Memorial hospital.

He was born November 25, 1908 in Enoch to the late Nathan and Juditha (Hamrick) Workman.

In addition to his parents he was also preceded in death by his wife Runa Mae (Workman) Workman, sons Jesse, Leon, Hysel, Earsel, daughter Ina Gill, 6 brothers and 6 sisters. Alton and Runa were married April 11, 1931.

He was retired from BC&G Railroad as a Foreman and Elk River Coal & Lumber Co.

Alton is survived by daughters, Elsie Casto of Rustburg, VA., Jean Key of Cowen, WV., Virginia Maddox of Blue Ridge, Va., Judy Dunn of Lynchburg, Va., Lucille Hamrick Rose of Montgomery, WV., brother Hollie Workman of Indian Trail N.C., 41 grandchildren, 80 great-grandchildren and 37 great-great-grandchildren.

Graveside service will be held 1:00 P.M. Monday, November 3, 2008 at Ramsey Cemetery, Enoch, with Minister Wayne Litton officiating.

After the service the family will gather at JG Bradley Campground, Dundon.
Wilson-Shamblin-Smith Funeral Home, Clay is in charge of arrangements.
