*A niece of Hiram G. Brown, Alice (Brown) Allen, wrote this story about her grandfather, Elijah:
Rev. Elijah (Baptist Minister), his wife and five children were moving in a covered wagon from Georgetown to the vicinity of Sidney, IL. where he became sick and died. Kind friends cut down walnut trees and made a coffin in the blacksmith shop and his body was buried east of Sydney in a wooded pasture. Elizabeth worked and saved enough money to buy a stone for his grave. Upon her death, the family had her buried at Weaver. Seventy-eight years after the death of Elijah, family members searched for his grave, and after finding it, they had his remains moved to the side of his wife at Weaver Cemetery.

Broadlands, Ill., Aug. 21.—For several years the children of Dr. Brown, deceased, have tried to find the grave of their grandfather, Elijah Brown, who was a Baptist minister. In 1838 while moving from Nashville, Tenn., to Illinois, he became ill and died, leaving a wife and seven small children. As there were no cemeteries then, he was buried in the timber near Sidney.
Sunday afternoon, Harry Parish and wife and Harry Allen and wife visited the Mount Hope cemetery in hopes of finding a trace of the grave. While there they met two old pioneers, who remembered hearing the story of the death of Elijah Brown. One of the men knew the exact location of the grave. Thru his help it was found in a wooded pasture on the old Blockson farm, now the L. C. Ruddleston farm. The marble slab was broken, but the name and date was correct.
The grandchildren and the one remaining daughter, Mrs. Sarah Day, of Danville, are going to have the grave examined. If any bones are found they will be moved to the Fairfield cemetery. However, if nothing is found the grave will be marked with a large rough stone.

Sidney, October 13,.—Mr. and Mrs. Harry Parish and Mr. and Mrs. Harry Allen, accompanied by a number of people from Allerton, made a trip to the L. C. Rudicil farm for the purpose of opening the grave where Rev. Elijah Brown pioneer preacher, dead nearly a century was supposed to be buried.
After digging to a depth of about six feet they came across the bones of a body, well preserved. The skull was intact. A small piece of the coffin and a few rusty nails were also found.
The bones were taken to Indianola and placed in a grave beside that of Mrs. Brown.
