David Evans

=============================================

Her previous married name was Lyles; she had one son during this marriage, Jimmie born 1901.

---------------------------------------------------

Suggested edit: Mattie is listed in the 1880 Census record as a 2-year old daughter of C.G. & Jane Bates in DeKalb County, Tennessee.
Marital records from the state of Tennessee show she was married to James Henry Lyles b-1877, at her age 21, on 7 May 1899. The union produced one son James Henry Lyles b-1899.
The following Census record, 13 June 1900, lists Mattie, still age 21, and James b-1877, at the age of 20, living in DeKalb County with James's mother and sisters and lists Mattie as a Daughter-in-Law of James's mother.
The next census record, 3 April 1910, shows Mattie married to Grover Cleveland Evans with her son James Henry listed at age 9 as Jimmie Evans and Grover and Mattie have a five year old son Robert D. It is assumed that her first husband, James Henry b-1877, had died. (there have been no more records found on him0. It is also assumed that Mattie and Grover were married in about 1903. They remained a couple, producing one Daughter and four sons total, until Mattie's death.
