A. Townsend Taken By Death
Arthur Irwin Townsend, 72, of 1151 Van Buren Street died at a local hospital Tuesday morning. He had been a resident of Missoula for 40 years and was for seven years custodian of the Central School, from which position he retired seven years ago. Prior to that he had held the same position at the Prescott School and earlier was in the transit business.
He was born November 21, 1875, at Bedord, Iowa. He came to Montana as a young man, first living at Dillon, from where he went to Stevensville where he engaged in ranching. He came to Missoula in 1907.
Survivors are three sons, Herbert, Seeley lake; Leonard of Portland, Ore., and Roy of Missoula; one daughter, Mrs. Annabelle Aycock of Long Beach, Cal.; one brother, Ira, Alder.,and two sisters, Mrs. Pearl Head of Butte and Mrs. Nora Snyder who resides in California. There are eight grandchildren and his stepmother, the latter living in Stevensville.
He was a 25 year member of the Order of Moose. Funeral arrangements are pending at the Lucy Mortuary.
