Dexter F. Church, 81, 1111 Antioch Road, Johnson City, died Monday, June 4, 2001, at the James H. Quillen Veterans Affairs Medical Center.
Mr. Church was a native of Beech Mountain, N.C., and had lived most of his life in Johnson City. He was a son of the late Luther Lloyd and Emma Rebecca Harmon Church and was also preceded in death by a sister, Thelma Morrison.
Mr. Church was retired from Paty Lumber Company after 38 years of service and was a U.S. Army Veteran of World War II. He was a member of Skyline Heights Baptist Church.
Survivors include his wife, Nellie Moore Church; a daughter, Patsy Ann Church, Johnson City; a sister, Harleen Reed, Lincoln Park, Mich.; and four brothers, Tracy Church and Ernest Church, both of Johnson City, Dean Church, Elizabethton, and Robert Church, Berea, Ky. Several nieces and nephews also survive.

CHURCH -- Funeral services for Dexter F. Church, 81, 1111 Antioch Road, Johnson City, who died Monday, June 4, 2001, will be conducted at 8 p.m. Wednesday, June 6, from the Morris-Baker South Chapel with the Rev. Kenneth Kyker and the Rev. Ken Gaskin officiating. Graveside services and interment will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, June 7, at Monte Vista Burial Park. The VFW Post #3382, Kingsport, will provide military honors. Honorary pallbearers will be the men of the Open Door Sunday School Class of Skyline Heights Baptist Church. Family and friends will assemble at the cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home. Friends may also call at the residence or at the home of his daughter, Patsy Church, 1113 Antioch Road. For those who wish, the family suggests memorial contributions be made to the Skyline Heights Baptist Church, Building Fund, 1601 Skyline Drive, Johnson City, Tenn. 37604 or the Antioch Baptist Church Building Fund, 1014 Antioch Road, Johnson City, Tenn. 37604.
