He attended St. Cloud Catholic Grade School and graduated from Fond du Lac Senior High School. He attended Marquette University and graduated with a Doctor of Dental Surgery degree in 1939. He practiced dentistry in Kiel from 1939 until his retirement in 1982, with the exception of serving in the U.S. Navy Dental Corps and the U.S. Marine Air Corps from 1943-1946.
He was past president of the following professional organizations: Manitowoc Co. Dental Society, Wisconsin Society of Dentistry for Children and Fox River Valley Dental Society. Other professional memberships included American Dental Association (life member), Milwaukee County Dental Society, American Society of Dentistry for
Children, American Society of Preventative Dentistry, American Society of Dental Hypnosis. Marquette University Dental Alumni Association, Wisconsin Public Health Association Inc. and the Wisconsin Health Council Inc.
In 1973 he received the Wisconsin Society of Dentistry for Children Service Award for outstanding accomplishments in children's dentistry. Social organizations he was associated with included Kiwanis, Kiel Chamber of Commerce (past president), Holy Name Society of Sts. Peter and Paul, Kiel Community Chest (past president), Kiel Little League (founder and past president), American Legion, Boy Scouts of America (sustaining member and past Cubmaster), VFW, Kiel Fish and Game, and Kiel Right and Left Handers Bowling Team, and PTA of SS. Peter and Paul School (past president).
Survivors include his wife of 55 years, Vera; six sons; Donald and Janet, Green Bay, Dr. Richard and Terry, New Holstein, David and Cathi, Hanover, Ill., Dr. Dennis and Rhonda, Plymouth, Dr. Michael and Paulette, Kiel, Charles and Theresa, Sarasota, Fla; one daughter and son-in-law, Lori and David Sladky, Brookfield; 27 grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren. Preceding him in death were three sisters and four brothers, and a great-grandchild. The family wishes to acknowledge Holy Family Memorial Hospice and a special nurse, Dorothy Gries, for their efforts in making his fight with cancer easier.
Memorials will be established in his name for Sts. Peter and Paul Catholic School, and Holy Family Memorial Hospice. Funeral services were held at Meiselwitz-Volstedt Funeral Home of Kiel, and at Sts.Peter and Paul Catholic Church, Kiel, with the Rev. Cletus LaMere,
