Christopher A. Hoffman

Christopher A. Hoffman, son of
Charles and Mary Jane Hoffman,
was born June 2, 1870, at Davenport,
Iowa, and departed this life
June 7, 1953, at his home in Centralia.

He came to Kansas in 1898. He
was married to Miss Mertie Lee,
December 5, 1900 at Centralia.
Six children were born to this
union and all survive. The children
are Jessie, who is Mrs. Martin
Langsdorf, Centralia; William Arthur
Hoffman, Centralia; Norbert
Hoffman, Centralia; Norma, who is
Mrs. Howard Sunderland, Bird
City, Kansas; Major Robert Lee
Hoffman, Tokyo, Japan; Emmma
Louise, who is Mrs. William Brower,
Peoria, Illinois. Also surviving
are ten grandchildren; one brother,
Roy Hoffman of Sioux City, Iowa;
one sister, Mrs. Lillie Reynolds,
Reo Linder (Rio Linda), California;
a half-sister, Mrs. Dora McLaughlin,
Coon Rapids, Iowa; a number of
nieces and nephews. He was preceded
in death by his parents and
four brothers.

He was a kind and loving hus-
band and father and took a special
delight in his grandchildren.

Services were held in the Centralia
Methodist church on Thursday,
with the pastor, Rev. Ira Willard,
officiating. Mrs. Dale Bryan
and Mrs. Charles Sherrer, Arthur
Myers and Earl Roberts sang, "In
the Garden" and Mrs. Sherrer
and Mrs. Bryan sang "Beyond the
Sunset."

The honorary pallbearers were
H. L. Wait, Oscar Newman, Clair
Campfield, O. E. Kirkman, Walter
Durland, Fred Schmidt, Tom Barrett
and George Poore. The active
pall bearers were Raymond Blair,
Merle Root, Dave Ayers, James
Ward, Elza Lockard and Louis
Vautravers. The Hayes funeral
home was in charge of the ar-
rangements.
