"Coroner: Union City man's death was a homicide - The death of an elderly Union City man has been ruled a homicide by the Erie County Coroner's Office. Raymond Goodwill Jr, 79, of 7900 W High St Ext, was found dead inside his home Saturday by an acquaintance who was checking on his welfare, according to authorities. Goodwill died of blunt force trauma to the head, said Korac Timon, chief deputy coroner for Erie County. An autopsy was conducted on Goodwill's body Sunday by Dr Eric Vey, a forensic pathologist. 'The head injury was to the right side of his head. It appears to be one blow,' Timon said Sunday night. 'We can't tell from the injury yet what may have been used. It was an unkempt home and there were items piled up.' Further testing will be needed to determine whether Goodwill was struck from behind, Timon said. Goodwill, who lived alone, was found dead inside his Union Township home, just outside of the borough of Union City, around 8:10 am Saturday by a female acquaintance, according to Timon, who said the autopsy determined that Goodwill had been dead less than 24 hours. Goodwill was found inside the home on a couch, Timon said. The woman's screams alerted a neighbor, who called Erie County 911. Pennsylvania State Police at Corry and the Erie County Coroner's Office are continuing to investigate and no motive has been established, Timon said. Authorities were releasing few other details at this point, citing the ongoing nature of the investigation."
