Elizabeth Clayton was married to Samuel Lewis in then Livingston Co., KY, 17 July 1800. That she and Samuel were married this early has also hampered identifying her father, since the writer can also find no record of any of the Claytons in Livingston Co. as early as 1800.
Samuel Lewis died in Caldwell Co. between 1830 and 1840, as the latter year Elizabeth appears in the census as head of household. Sometime afterward she moved to IL and spent the rest of her life living with her children. The will of her son Eddin (d. 1849) specifies that his mother and his sister Laurilla, while single, be provided with living space and necessities in his new building.
The date of birth is determined from the stone.
