Mrs. Farrar was born in Smyrna, GA on May 13, 1914 to Grover Cleveland and Lena May Gann Green. She graduated from Marietta High School in 1932. She worked with her father in his optometry practice at the Peachtree Arcade in Atlanta, GA until she married Virgil Payne Farrar of Waynesboro, GA on September 19, 1937. Upon settling in Marietta, Ga, Mrs. Farrar became active in the Elks Club, the Civitan Club, the Marietta Garden Club and the Y.W.C.A. She was a dedicated volunteer at Kennestone Hospital and a member of the First Methodist Church in Marietta, GA. There, she taught Sunday School for many years. Sara was a member of the Smyrna Social Club, Daughters of the American Revolution, United Daughters of the Confederacy, and Washington Family Descendants. She worked with her late husband at Reynolds & Farrar Drug Company. She also owned The Knit and Gift Shop.
Sara was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Virgil, her brother Grover Cleveland Green, Jr., and three sisters, Virginia Williford Green, Mary Russell Carter, and Laura Alice Hamrick.
Sara Farrar is survived by her daughter, Sally Farrar Daniel and husband Jack Daniel of Milledgeville, GA; her son, Virgil Payne Farrar, III, of Blairsville, GA; three grandchildren: Sally Brown of Milledgeville, Farrar Davis of Macon, and Frazure Farrar of Atlanta, GA; four great-grandchildren: Ivey and Emma Brown of Milledgeville, GA. and Morgan and Payton Davis of Macon, GA; and several nieces and nephews.
The family received friends at Williams Funeral Home. Graveside servies were held on July 28, 2009 at The New Smyrna Cemetery in Smyrna, GA. Williams Funeral Home and Crematory handled the arrangements.
