Ethel Kennann, 91, of Amarillo died Tuesday, Nov. 25, 2014.
Graveside services will be at 1 p.m. today in Llano Cemetery with Danny Mize of Hospice Care of the Southwest officiating. Arrangements are by Schooler Funeral Home, 4100 S. Georgia St.
Ethel was born Dec. 4, 1922, in Seminole, Okla., to Dan and Lille Mae Burgett. She married James Robert “J.R.”Kennann on Aug. 25, 1940. They raised their family in Amarillo.
Ethel become a very successful realtor and was one of the first women to achieve the million dollar mark in Amarillo. She was an independent and determined lady who never feared hard work. In fact, she prided herself on hard work and was climbing ladders, painting and doing general up keep on her many rental properties until she was 86 years old. She set an amazing example for her children and grandchildren. However, she did make it known that her favorite children were her four legged companions, Gidgett, Susie Q and now Chloe. Chloe remained at her side throughout her illness.
She was preceded in death by her husband on May 28, 1982; a sister, Bessie Mae Arthur; and five brothers, Clyde, Spirlon, Euwell, Ernest and Rachel Burgett.
Survivors include her children Jeanette Massey and husband David, James Kennann and wife Deena, Sheridan Dodson and Stephanie Nielsen and husband Gary, all of Amarillo; four grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; and nine great-great-grandchildren.
The family suggests memorials be to American Cancer Society, 3915 S. Bell St., Amarillo, TX 79109; or Amarillo Humane Society, 3501 S. Osage St., Amarillo, TX 79118.
