Alice Arnold was one of the youngest daughters of William H and Ellen Flannery Arnold and one of 10 children. According to family tradition she was the first child born in the ranch house on the East Gallatin River, 7 miles NW of Bozeman, MT. The older children being born in the family's log cabin on the same 630 acre spread. It is likely that she is named after Mary Alice Arnold Collins, her father's sister.

She attended Bowling Green Normal School and then Montana Agricultural College and taught the 6th and 7th grades in the Belgrade School in Belgrade, MT.

While teaching in Belgrade, Alice met Dr Robert G Anderson a native of Washington, Iowa, who came to Belgrade to practice dentistry. They were married Sept 4, 1916. Robert and Alice settled in Missoula, MT. Their first child Mary Ellen was born June 30, 1917 and only lived a few days. On Feb 9, 1919 Dr Anderson met with an untimely death due to the influenza complicated by scarlet fever. Alice returned to Bozeman, MT where her second daughter Roberta was born on Sept 29, 1919.

Shortly after the birth of Roberta, Alice moved the two of them down to Long Beach, Ca to be with her parents. She attended UCLA (University of California at Los Angeles) to renew her teaching credentials, but later decided in 1924 to take a job with the City of Long Beach, as the Deputy City Tax Collector. She held that job until 1952.

In 1956 Alice went to live in Paris, with her daughter Roberta, who was assigned to the US Delegation of NATO. For 4 years she enjoyed living in Paris and traveling in Europe. Alice died at an American hospital in Paris on June 8, 1960. Her body was returned to Calvary Cemetery in Los Angeles,CA where many of her birth family are buried. She was later moved to Sunset Hills Cemetery in Bozeman,MT where she now lies next to her husband and two daughters.
