Louis , who was called "Looey or Lou" by the family, was born on the 630 acre Arnold ranch on the East Gallatin River, 7 miles NW of Bozeman, MT. It is likely that he attended All Hallows College in Salt Lake City as did his brother Will. he also studied Mechanical Engineering at Montana Agricultural College and worked for many years at the Leherkind Brewery in Bozeman. About 1909 Louis moved to Seattle with his sister Annie and worked at the Rainer Brewery there. With the coming of the prohibition, he found himself out of work and decided to join other members of the family who had settled in Long Beach, CA.
The 1920s were a period of hard times for Louis, who was unable to find steady work. He was however a wonderful help to his mother Ellen and his sisters Anne Arnold and Alice Anderson at their home on Olive Ave in Long Beach, CA. He cared for his young niece Roberta Anderson when she was not in school. When the prohibition was repealed he found work immediately at the Acme Brewing Co in San Francisco. He continued to work there until his retirement, living in a residential hotel.
In the late 1930s Louis met Annie T Callahan a retired US Government employee from Washington DC, who had taken a room with Alice and Anne in Long Beach. In 1940 at the age of 64, Louis married Annie in San Francisco. They lived there until Louis's retirement and then returned to Long Beach to live near his sisters.
Louis died in 1953 and is buried in the mausoleum at All Souls Cemetery. Anne moved back to the east coast where she lived to a very advanced age and died in the mid 70s.
