Rayfield was a furrier in his earlier days. He worked for the Fouke Fur Company. Later on, he worked in meat-cutting. He was married to Anna Hoffman, and he died at an early age, due to lung cancer. Some family have suggested the cancer could have been due to the chemicals he worked with on his furrier job. He died at home, and his lung cancer had been diagnosed some eight months earlier.
His parents were Amelia Everard and William Brandriff and he was born in Elser, Illinois. Some of this info came from his death certificate, and some of it came from his obituary and family members.
