David Oliver DeWitt, 76, Churubusco route two, a native of Huntington county, died at 4:30 a.m. Wednesday in the Methodist hospital, Fort Wayne, after a few days illness. Mr. DeWitt was born September 6, 1874, in Huntington county to Isaac and Sarah Preston Dewitt. He was married to Cerena Cormany December 16, 1894. The wife died July 23, 1949. He was a resident of Clear Creek township for a number of years. He owned and operated a saw mill and threshing outfit. He left the county for residence in Whitley county and later moved to a farm residence about four miles east of the Eel River church in Allen county where he resided when he became ill. Surviving are four sons, Raymond DeWitt, Clear Creek township; Lawrence DeWitt, Grabill; Clarence DeWitt, South Whitley and Harvey DeWitt, Churubusco route two; five daughters, Mrs. Charles Pressler, this city; Mrs. James Loe, Jackson township; Mrs. Raymond Webster, Fort Wayne; Mrs. Lawrence Snyder, Roanoke route one, and Mrs. Wilbur Eytcheson, Churubusco route two; 43 grandchildren and 37 great-grandchildren; two sisters, Mrs. Bertha Druley, Huntington route three and Mrs. Olive McGregor, Long Beach, Calif. A daughter, Mrs. Herbert Fairchild, died August 21, 1950 and a son, Clifford, died in 1918. The body was returned from the Kreider funeral home at Churubusco to the family residence where friends may call. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday at the Pleasant Chapel Evangelical United Brethren church, northwest of Roanoke, of which he was a member. The Rev. Kenneth E. Smith, pastor of the Simpson Methodist church, Elkhart will officiate, assisted by the Rev. D. E. Littler, pastor of the church. Burial will be in the church cemetery.
