On June 21, 1922, he married Maude Mae Morris, whom he had converted while he was on his mission. Maude was born in Cedar Bluffs, Nebraska, the daughter of Joseph Morris and Mary Elizabeth McPherson.
They made their home in Hartford, Connecticut, for four years before returning to Millville. After their return to Millville, Joe engaged in farming. He operated a threshing machine and did custom threshing throughout the valley.
His church positions included counselor to Bishop Ernest Scott and later to Bishop Franklin Bitters. The Andersons left Millville in 1941; and Joe was employed as shop foreman for International Harvester in Logan and, later, in Clearfield, where the family moved in 1951.
Maude was employed at L.R. Samuels. She later volunteered at Dee Hospital and the new McKay Dee Hospital for thirteen years.
Joe and Maude are parents of: Maurice Leon (deceased), Elaine Mary, Robert Niels, Joseph Boyd, Carole Jean (died in infancy) and Bruce Edward.
