John Edwin Anderson was born in Millville, the son of Niels and Mary Neilson Anderson. He attended school in Millville and worked with his father in the canyons.

On June 1, 1923, he married Alta Bench in the Logan Temple. The daughter of Stephen William and Mattie Green Bench, she was born Aug­ust 24, 1906, at Elwood, Utah.

Johnny far­med for a living, and he worked on the thres­hing crew with his brothers during harvest time. He helped install the pipeline in Black­smith Fork Canyon.

In addition to being a homemaker, Alta has served in the auxiliaries of the LDS Church.

They are the parents of four children: John Edwin, Jr. (Elta Bellamy), Ramon Curtis (Patricia Brown), Sybil Jean (Junius Campbell) and Marlin Dale (Lurlene Bench).
