Charles E. Gramling

Charles E. GRAMLING, one of the city's best known merchants and head of the general mercantile firm of Gramling & Co., at the corner of Cedar and Bedford streets, died at his home, 536 Fronheiser street, at 4:30 o'clock yesterday morning, aged 42 years, 3 months and 20 days. Mr. GRAMLING had been quite ill with pulmonary trouble, the cause of his death, for a long time and had sought relief in sanitariums, but without avail.

Charles E. GRAMLING was born in Adams township, this county, and was a son of the venerable George GRAMLING and the late Mrs. Catherine PAUL GRAMLING. He was a brother of Daniel and Solomon GRAMLING of Dale, William of Windber, Mrs. Barbara WISSINGER of Dale, Mrs. Catherine STUTZMAN of Moxham and Mrs. Amanda GILLMAN of South Fork.

Fifteen years ago the deceased was united in marriage at Jenners, Somerset county, with Miss Alice BOWMAN, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Peter J. BOWMAN. She survives with the following children: Dora, Stella, Edith, Ruth, Bowman C., Ethyl and Alice J. GRAMLING, all at home.

Deceased was a devoted member of the Dale United Evangelical church and the funeral services will be held there at 2 o'clock tomorrow afternoon by the Rev. J. A. Q. Curry, the pastor of the Dale U. E. congregation. The Rev. W. F. Ware, pastor of the Willow street church, and the Rev. F. D. Ellenberger of that denomination at Franklin Pa., will assist.
